Foreign phd students in France

Description In order to sign your doctoral contract and begin your thesis, you will need the following:

A residence permit

For this, you will be asked to sign a convention d'accueil with the research laboratory/institution to which you are affiliated: this is issued by your future employer and enables you to prove your professional situation in France in order to apply for a residence permit. Ask for it from your contact at the establishment to which you are affiliated (the formular is available on service-public website). This document will enable you to apply for a visa if this is your first stay in France, or a "talent chercheur" residence permit if you are already living in France with a student residence permit, for example. If this is your first stay in France, please contact the TLS center in your country (website to make an appointment: https://visa-fr.tlscontact.com). Otherwise, apply for a residence permit at https://administration-etrangers-en-france.interieur.gouv.fr

A certificate of social security entitlement

As soon as you receive notification of the decision on your application for a visa or residence permit, you can apply for registration with the caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (primary health insurance fund) in your place of residence.
